reflection moment?

The character for ren is composed of two graphic elements, one representing a human being and the other representing the number two. Based on this, one often hears that ren means "how two people should treat one another....Rén was believed to be a natural quality inside of every person. Confucius spoke these words expelling the ease of practicing rén: "it [rén] is not far off; he who seeks it has already found it."—Wikipedia

As ren was a guiding force within the person, it would seem wrong to create something that would act on a person from the external to get him to act as he should. For this reason, it seems false to create a product or service to suggest or make someone do the right thing.

Based on the fact that design principles would originate from outside the person would also suggest that they too would be contrary to the spirit of ren.

If this is the case, if we really wanted to design something for ren, it seems like it might be a way to facilitate for a designer if what he is creating is in the spirit of ren. Perhaps then, the design would be for a "reflection moment" and perhaps a given set of questions that the designer would ask himself. Perhaps they would be questions such as:

what are the implications of this thing on my neighbor; and on his neighbor?
what good does this bring to the world besides profit for my client?

In a life of speed and deadlines creating these reflection moments would be difficult, as no doubt they would be squeezed out of the process every time. So perhaps designing for the mentalities created in a client relationship might be the answer: could we create a moment for client and designer to have this reflection moment?
